Not sure where to start?

Free Consultation:  Schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation to determine what service would be best for you.

Expert Consultation: A consultation appointment can be scheduled for 30 minutes or 1 hour to discuss collaborations or any brain health related concern.  Services include brain health coaching sessions, collaborative research projects, grant proposals, manuscripts, scientific advisory board positions and legal services.

QEEG Assessment

QEEG: A quantitative electroencephalogram [QEEG] using an FDA-registered CGX-Cognionics Qucik-20m dry sensor technology headset or a Deymed Diagnostic TruScan EEG system will be used to assess the electrical activity of the brain at 19-locations across the scalp using the International 10/20 system in the eyes closed and eyes open conditions. Neuroguide and Neuronavigator software from Applied Neuroscience, Inc. will be used to identify brain network dysregulation using low-resolution electromagnetic tomography [LORETA] z-scores at the cortical and subcortical levels using an FDA-registered normative database [ages 2-89] established with funding from the National Institutes of Health at the University of Maryland.  Split-half analysis will be done to illustrate the reliability and validity of the data. A comprehensive report will be provided identifying specific brain regions [Brodmann areas] and network circuitry dysregulation [i.e., Default mode network, Executive network, Salience network, etc.] with a narrative review of the functional capacities of each region.  Specific discriminant functions can be used to identify the probability of TBI [across all severity levels but with a sensitivity for mTBI] and learning disabilities.  This report can be shared with mental health practitioners including neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons to provide information on brain network dysregulation [i.e., impairments in connectivity between brain regions] which can be of great value in the diagnosis, management, and treatment co-morbid [two or more] medical conditions including attention deficit disorder, anxiety, autism, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia, mild cognitive impairment and traumatic brain injury among others.  A neurofeedback protocol tailored to your brain can also be generated and utilized for neuromodulation training.

Neurofeedback for Peak Performance

Neurofeedback for Peak Performance

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a noninvasive form of brain training that focuses on restoring healthy brain function by modulating the electrical activity of the brain. It’s a type of biofeedback that uses the underlying electrical activity in the brain to reinforce a desired brain state through operant conditioning principles. The feedback comes in the form of an audio or video that allows the brain to consciously modify and regulate the electroencephalogram (EEG) activity.

How does it help peak performance?

Neurofeedback training can help to improve the overall stability and communication of neuronal networks across the brain. This allows the brain to be more efficient, allowing for enhanced attention, cognitive processing, creativity, intellect, and resilience. It supports healthier patterns of thought, improved mental states, greater emotional regulation, and a feeling of inner peace and well-being.  Neurofeedback is an effective technique for enhancing peak performance in athletes, students, artists, executives, teachers, parents, and all who are interested in preserving healthy brain function as they age, with the goal of attaining peak brain states conducive to achieving one’s fullest potential.

What type of neurofeedback do we do?

SwLORETA [Sorted weighted low-resolution electromagnetic brain tomography] is an advanced multi-channel neurofeedback approach that targets specific neural networks in the brain, including cortical and subcortical regions.  It provides real-time 3D feedback on brain activity, allowing for precise and targeted training. Customized training protocols are designed based on the QEEG brain map and tailored to individual goals.

Creyos Cognitive Assessment

Cognitive Assessment

Cognitive Assessment: A 40-minute computerized neurocognitive assessment from Creyos Health [formerly Cambridge Brain Sciences] will be administered to objectively measure functioning across 4 core cognitive domains [memory, reasoning, verbal ability, concentration], assessing 12 outcome measures [visuospatial working memory, spatial short-term memory, working memory, episodic memory, mental rotation, visuospatial reasoning, deductive reasoning, planning, verbal reasoning, verbal short-term memory, attention, response inhibition].  Examples of the cognitive tasks can be seen below [Token Search, Spatial Planning, Feature Match].  Your score on each test will be compared to a global normative database of over 85,000 individuals who are of the same gender and age group. This assessment can indicate which areas of the brain require cognitive training and can indicate whether additional diagnostic testing is required from a neuropsychologist, psychiatrist, or neurologist.  This assessment can be repeated annually to monitor brain health over time and to identify any indicators of age-related decline.

The goal is to use this assessment to monitor your cognitive health and to use this as a tool to inspire you to build your cognitive reserve [which allows us to function efficiently despite volumetric changes that occur in the brain as we age] and reduce your risk of dementia.  The neurocognitive tasks in this assessment have been validated and used at scale both academically and in the commercial marketplace and have been used in over 300 studies published in leading peer-reviewed journals over 25 years to assess and manage brain health.  Professor Adrian Owen, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Creyos Health/Cambridge Brain Health Sciences, who developed this assessment, is a Professor at The Brain and Mind Institute, Western University, Canada, and the former Canada Excellence Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging.

Athlete Assessment

Athlete Assessment: This includes a baseline neurocognitive assessment [to track cognitive health before and after a concussion or sports related injury] and electrical neuroimaging of an athlete in a healthy state. Baseline testing allows clinicians to determine if a concussion has occurred, its severity and if it’s safe for an athlete to return to sports.  If an athlete does not undergo a baseline assessment, an assessment can be done following the injury and a normative database will be used to determine whether the athlete has been injured based on clinical symptom presentation and brain network dysregulation that demonstrates a statistically significant deviation from a normative database matching the athlete to an individual of similar age and gender.

Brain Health Course

Brain Health Course: An online 12-module course tailored to coaches, educators, and practitioners in the brain health and mental health fields, nurse practitioners, registered dieticians, or individuals who want to take a deeper exploration into how the brain functions, how to optimize brain function, and the clinical aspects of brain health.  Given that cognition is highly susceptible to the external factors in our life [dietary choices, nutritional supplementation, hydration, exercise regimen, sleep hygiene, perceived stress, emotional state, and mental training] this course will serve to educate you in ways in which brain science has validated the practices that effectively preserve and maintain your brain health and to keep you mentally fit over time. The American Academy of Neurology has prioritized Brain Health as its top initiative for 2025 to reduce the burden of neurological disorders in the population, so this is the optimal time to become proficient and knowledgeable in this field and to share this wisdom with others.  This will be a companion course to my book Biohack Your Brain: How to Boost Cognitive Health, Performance & Power.
